After more than ten years spent in Asia, notably in Hong Kong, South Korea and Burma, Jules has decided to settle down in Lyon in 2020. After having ridden thousands of kilometers on his Royal Enfield Classic 350 through the Himalayas, Indonesia and a good part of Burma, don't talk to him about roadtrip in Asia or else free up your day! He is mostly animated by meetings with his local partners, the creation of new itineraries that are out of the ordinary, and especially exchange with riders who come back from trips in Asia with stars in their eyes.
This motorcycle tour will leave you in awe with a mix of contrasting landscapes, giving you the chance to explore this mysterious country. We set off on Classic Royal Enfields to discover the arid Sahara Desert, the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains and the west coast where the Atlantic Ocean waves break. This week-long tour will guarantee a change of scenery and inspire you to explore the Moroccan valleys. From the mountains to the desert and then the desert to the sea, we ride in search of that exhilarating feeling of freedom that’s impossible to shake. This motorcycle tour is ideal for novice riders as the entire route takes tarmacked roads.
You’re greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. You can make the most of this first day to explore Marrakech. Discover its stunning architectural heritage, stroll around the famous souks in the medina and sample local delicacies. Overnight stay at a hotel.
We get an early start to make the most of the cool morning temperatures and head south. We devour the longest leg of the tour during which we cross the Atlas Mountains and reach Taroudant in the sun-drenched Sous plains. the mid-afternoon, we arrive at the Sous plains, which we skirt until we reach the ramparts surrounding historic Taroudant. Overnight stay at a hotel.
We leave “Little Marrakech” behind us to continue southbound in search of the heat of the Sahara Desert. After some miles on a road as straight as the Route 66, the spectacular, majestic Lesser Atlas Mountains appear before us. One bend after another, the road takes us deeper into this 300 million-year-old mountain range.
We get back on the road towards the north west, heading for the Atlantic Ocean. But before we get there, we find ourselves at higher altitudes once again, crossing the Indiana Jones-style peaks that protect Tafraoute from the outside world. Palm groves and fortified villages pepper the road that lead us to the cooler plains. We arrive in Imouzzer.
We can expect a complete change of scenery on the second part of the tour. Enjoying the sea breeze, we set off onto the twists and turns of the Atlas canyons, lined with palm trees and alongside rivers. We stop for a tea and to take in the spectacular views of these fascinating rock formations and then make our way towards the ancient fortified Portuguese town Essaouira.
We leave the seaside behind us and our trusty Classic Royal Enfields take us back to Marrakech. The scenery changes as we clock up the miles and our memories of the last few days start to merge with the simple joy of riding and feeling free. We take a break to share our experiences, but it’s really just an excuse to put off ending the trip for as long as possible.
Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some time to enjoy Marrakech’s charms for a few more hours. You’re transferred to the international airport.
