HISTORY AND CULTURE IN ECUADOR

Ecuador is a world within a world, stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Amazon through the Andes Mountains. Going on a motorcycle trip to Ecuador will take you to discover a land with a very rich history. Yumbos, Quitus, Puruhas, several civilizations and tribes reigned on Ecuador until the arrival of the Incas. The Inca empire, already present between Peru and Bolivia, reached Ecuador only in 1515. Atahualpa, son of Huayna Capac and a princess of Quito, reigns on the Ecuadorian empire until the conquistador Francisco Pizzaro lands. In 1533, the Spaniards arrived in Ecuador and first took Quito and then built Guayaquil. Ecuador went through many crises and the colonial empire began to weaken with the arrival of various epidemics. In 1822, General Sucre, with the support of the Venezuelan general Simon Bolivar, won the battle of Pichincha and drove the Spaniards out of Quito. Ecuador became independent in 1830. Among the major figures of the country, we remember the name of Gabriel Garcia Moreno, president from 1860 to 1875. The contemporary history is then marked by several attempts of coups d’état before finding a stability from 2007, with the election of Rafael Correa.
