A life of travel and bikes
When Dominique moves to New York in 2013, it only takes him a couple of days to get his US driving license, with the intention of cruising along Route 66 on his Triumph Bonneville. As a passionate biker, this road trip seems like the perfect way to discover his new home country. But after soon discovering how many other exciting rides this land has to offer, Dom starts thinking about a way of sharing information with other bike enthusiasts: “It actually emerged quite naturally, when I thought of a platform where everyone could bring their ideas and suggestions for trips”. Thus NY Classic Riders was born.
Every little bit helps
Appealing originally to the French-community of New York, the group has slowly attracted aficionados from more and more diverse backgrounds: it now counts some 700 members from around 32 different countries. A big group, yet one which has managed to retain the authenticity and intimacy of its earliest stages: Dom, for example, has personally met with all of the members. Where did this passion for multicultural gatherings take root? “I’m half French, half German, and born in London, says Dom. After growing up in a multicultural environment, my professional career lead me to live and work on several continents. When I wasn’t working, I was still travelling to other places to visit new countries. I like to call myself a Global Soul!”
The fact that everyone comes from different backgrounds with different motorcycle cultures and personal experiences, makes the whole thing so enriching. Every member has their own personality, which adds up perfectly with the rest.
A community like no other
Since its creation, NY Classic Riders proposes daytrips out of NYC on weekends, as well as undertaking a couple of multiple-day trips. Besides that, they make videos, take great quality photos of their journeys, have a blog where each member is free to post motorcycle-related news, and produce cool t-shirts. What makes this community so attractive? “I think that everyone has joined the group for a different reason, says Dom. Escaping the city, meeting people, or experiencing new sensations. This, plus the fact that everyone comes from different backgrounds with different motorcycle cultures and personal experiences, makes the whole thing so enriching. Every member has their own personality, which adds up perfectly with the rest”. All this reminds us of a motorcycle tour with Vintage Rides, where French, British, Australians and many others gather together, united by a passion for riding and the thirst to experience new adventures.
Since 2006, Vintage Rides has been the specialist in characterful motorcycle travel.
