Adventure in South Africa

Your Motorcycle Tour in South Africa 10 stages - 1000 miles

1/10 • Arrive in Cape Town
Upon arrival at the airport, you'll be taken to your hotel in Cape Town's city center. Explore this dynamic and cosmopolitan city, nestled in a sheltered bay dominated by Table Mountain. Walk through the historic center, visit the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront for a boat trip to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held captive. Meet your tour leader today.
2/10 • Le Cap – Hermanus
It's the moment we've been waiting for! Today, we embark on our Royal Enfield motorcycles and bid farewell to Cape Town as we set off along the southeast coast. The well-maintained coastal road treats us to breathtaking vistas of the opal-blue waters of False Bay. Our lunch break awaits us at Betty's Bay, where a delightful penguin colony has made its home. Continuing for just over 30 miles, we arrive at Hermanus, a picturesque seaside retreat renowned for its quaint houses with thatched roofs and scenic coastal trails that are an absolute must, especially during sunset!
3/10 • Hermanus – Barrydale
Setting off in the morning, we venture onto off-road terrain for the initial stretch before transitioning to well-maintained tracks en route to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa. The invigorating sea breeze caresses our faces, and we savor the chef's culinary masterpiece featuring the day's freshest catch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, our path leads us northward, tracing along the picturesque Langeberg range. By day's end, we arrive at Barrydale, a charming and unconventional village nestled in a tranquil setting.
4/10 • Barrydale – Oudtshoorn
We have a thrilling day ahead! Our journey takes us up to Tradouw Pass, revealing the expansive Klein Karoo region, a gateway to the vast Great Karoo desert that spans nearly one-third of the country. Along the way, we join the renowned Route 62, a beloved route among bikers who revel in the long, straight stretches, effortlessly devoured by their German and American motorcycles. A must-visit on Route 62 is Ronnie's Sex Shop, a vibrant and iconic stop for bikers, where we pause for a coffee. Soon after, we return to our preferred terrain—the exhilarating tracks! The ever-changing mountainous landscape zooms past the horizon, resembling scenes from a captivating Western film. We conclude the day with an overnight stay at a countryside guesthouse.
5/10 • Oudtshoorn
In the morning, we embark on our exploration of the captivating Cango Caves nestled at the base of the Swartberg mountain range. Afterwards, we veer onto a lesser-traveled path that leads us directly to the Meiringspoort gorges, a northward pass towards the expansive "Great Karoo" region. As we journey, the landscape transitions to a drier, more arid environment, accompanied by a rise in temperature. Upon reaching the picturesque farming village of Prince Albert, we take respite in a refreshing garden and savor the flavors of local cuisine. If weather permits, we continue our adventure by ascending the remarkable Swartberg Pass, a 1,600-meter-high marvel of a track that has stood the test of time for nearly 140 years. Late afternoon, we return to our hotel, filled with memories of the day's remarkable experiences.
6/10 • Oudtshoorn – Matjiesfontein
Embarking at dawn, we follow a scenic mountain track to Calitzdorp, famous for its port wine. After a short stint on Route 62, we enter the stunning Seweweekspoort canyon. The landscapes grow more deserted and magnificent as we near our destination. We spend the night in Matjiesfontein, a well-preserved hamlet from the late 19th century.
7/10 • Matjiesfontein – Montagu
In the morning, we embark on a one-hour ride along Highway 1, the extensive road linking Cape Town to Johannesburg. From there, we veer southward, venturing into the enigmatic and expansive terrains of Anysberg. Following a deserted trail, we traverse Ouberg Pass until we reach our destination—a captivating wildlife reserve nestled within a secluded valley. After refreshing ourselves with a dip in the pool, we embark on a thrilling jeep safari to seek out the wonders of the wild. As dusk descends, we gather for a traditional South African "braai," a cherished local barbecue tradition that unites us in a celebration of flavors and camaraderie.
8/10 • Montagu – Franschhoek
After traversing approximately 20 miles of trails, we pass through the town of Montagu, renowned for its invigorating hot springs. Continuing our journey southward, we enter the picturesque Breede River Valley, a clear indication that we have arrived in the heart of the wine region. Delighting in the beauty of the countryside, we pause for a delightful picnic before making our way towards the magnificent Franschhoek Pass. Franschhoek, meaning "the French corner," was established in the 13th century by a community of Huguenots and boasts some of the finest vineyards in the area. Get ready for a remarkable experience of wine tasting and savoring delectable cuisine in this enchanting destination!
9/10 • Franschhoek – Le Cap
On our final day of riding, we embark on an adventure to uncover the untamed beauty of the Cape Peninsula. Covering nearly 40 miles on a swift road, we arrive at the picturesque coastline and make a delightful pause at the historically captivating port of Simon's Town, once a prominent Royal Navy base during the 19th century. Continuing along the splendid coastal road, we traverse a national park caressed by invigorating sea breezes, where the remarkable flora and fauna thrive until we reach the legendary Cape of Good Hope. To conclude our journey, we return to Cape Town via the awe-inspiring Chapman's Peak Drive, a road skillfully carved into the cliff face, offering breathtaking vistas at every turn.
10/10 • Aéroport international du Cap
Depending on the timing of your flight, you may have a few additional hours to savor the enchanting allure of Cape Town. Rest assured, you will be promptly transported to the international airport to ensure a smooth departure for your onward journey.
