An intrepid all-rounder, she has cruised India’s roads with many groups, and knows the country like the back of her leather-gloved hand.
If you’ve already journeyed hundreds of miles through the jewels of Rajasthan, the tea plantations of Kerala, and the unforgettable trails of Ladakh… then dare to take a motorbike trip in the heart of India: Madhya Pradesh. Some of the country’s most beautiful temples and palaces, national parks with abundant wildlife, authentic and spontaneous encounters, sublime little roads, and delightful hotels. You’ll only ride in the morning, to really soak up the places en route. Make haste for the land of Rudyard Kipling, and you’ll better understand why this immensely mysterious and beguiling region inspired the famous Jungle Book.
You’re met at the airport and transferred to the hotel in the centre of Delhi. Your room is available from noon onwards.
We leave the hotel at dawn to catch the first train to Orchha. We arrive at around noon, check in at the hotel and have lunch. We go to centre of Orchha and spend the rest of the afternoon visiting this peaceful medieval village.
We start by crossing Orchha nature reserve then through mustard fields and traditional villages. From this day forward, we will delve deeper into rural India and discover the splendours of the princes of yesteryear thanks to our careful choice of small roads. We spend the night in a charming place next to a river surrounded by nature in the heart of Panna National Park.
You have a free morning this morning. If you want, you can take a jeep safari in the Panna national park (optional). After lunch, we get back on our bikes for a short ride on country roads until Khajuraho, an archaeological site known the world over for its erotic sculptures.
During the first few miles, we enter Panna’s forest by a series of twists and turns and small hills: the perfect road for biking! We then encounter typical plains and villages and witness plenty of rural scenes. We cruise through the Surdaha Ghati hills, giving us a beautiful view of the valley. We arrive at the ancient princely state of Maihar where we spend the night.
We experience heavy traffic for the first ten miles or so but get back on to the small country roads that we love. The landscapes provide colourful contrasts: dry croplands, bright yellow mustard fields and lush rice paddies. We reach the hotel deep in the forest in the National Park. We have lunch at our “Jungle Lodge” and can spend the afternoon as we wish: by the pool, taking a bike ride or a walk to the neighbouring village.
We get up early for a safari in Bandhavgarh national park because we have more chance of spotting a big cat at dawn. The Bandhavgarh National Park was established in 1968 and spans 715 square miles. Its 32 hills are mostly covered by forests as well as vast meadows. The park has the largest population of tigers in the world.
A long riding day on beautiful, smooth roads with scenery that sometimes resembles the African savannah. We really enter the heart of the Tiger country today. We pass many authentic villages, giving us plenty of chances to share experiences with local people. We take several tracks to reach the hotel, which is nestled in 16 hectares of forest. You can spend the rest of the afternoon as you wish.
We get up at dawn for the last safari of the trip. Kanha’s rolling landscapes are peppered with groves, hills and meadows, which are home to a large number of animals. You can spend the afternoon as you wish: take a dip in the swimming pool, relax, go for a bicycle ride or take a walk to the nearest village.
The roads are new and the surface is often impeccable, interspersed with thrilling tracks. We enjoy this final day at the helm of our Royal Enfields. We cross forests and countryside before reaching our destination in the heart of Pench National Park.
It would be such a shame not to enjoy this idyllic setting for longer, so we spend the day with some well-deserved relaxation by the pool. If you fancy exploring the property’s 16 hectares, you can organise one last safari (not included on the itinerary) or a last little loop in the countryside and neighbouring villages.
