Today marks the start of your adventure! We start off zigzagging along small roads up to Ranikhet. We continue along a smooth mountain road through pine forests and terraced fields until we reach Almora. The climb then continues to Kausani, where you can marvel at the remarkable views of a mountain range spanning more than 180 miles.
We leave early for the small stone temple in Baijnath, near the Gomti River, where you will see the huge sacred trout swimming around. The locals describe this peaceful atmosphere as “shanti, shanti”. Then, we take a charming, small cliffside road along Pindar River before continuing northwards to the small village Kund.
Today, we leave our luggage at the hotel to enjoy the beautiful surrounding roads. We head for Chopta Pass (2,700 m) round a series of hairpin bends. On the way back down we visit Gopeshwar, a small village famous for its seven-hundred-year-old temple devoted to Shiva. We take the same route back to Kund.
We take a steep road along the Ganges, which is bumpy more often than not. Depending on the season, we may come across some difficult stretches. One thing is certain: your adrenaline will rise as we pass through dramatic landscapes featuring red sandstone mountain faces, waterfalls and pine forests. For the last few miles, we ride alongside the lake formed by Tehri dam, which offers sumptuous scenery.
