Your Motorcycle Tour in Rajasthan 10 stages - 790 miles

rajasthan man camel
D1 / Delhi - Jaipur - 1h20 flight

Try to arrive in Delhi in the morning, or even the day before, if necessary. After lunch, we fly to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. You can spend the afternoon exploring the “Pink City”.

D2 / Jaipur - Pushkar - 115 miles

We begin our motorcycle tour heading to Pushkar. First, we must leave Jaipur city centre before setting off to explore the large Sambhar Salt Lake. We take sandy tracks, small rural roads and farmers droves to Pushkar, a peaceful town built around a sacred lake, an important Hindu pilgrimage site.

D3 / Pushkar - Ghanerao - 143 miles

We leave the arid Marwar plains behind us and embark on the winding roads of the Aravalli mountains, passing through many villages. We enjoy superb tracks and little roads that run through numerous valleys, each with different scenery. We then come back down to the lowlands and reach the ancient royal palace in Ghanerao.

D4 / Ghanerao - Mount Abu - 124 miles

We cruise across the plain on remote tracks and little roads and pass by the superb site of Jawai Bandh before zigzagging into the western foothills of the Aravalli mountains. Here the vegetation is denser and the many indigenous Adivasi villages that we ride through are extremely rustic and basic. In the distance we see the imposing Mount Abu come into view. We try to arrive in time to catch the sunset, a daily ritual that livens up this little high-altitude town.

D5 / Mount Abu - Jalore - 109 miles

We gaze one last time at Mount Abu’s greenery as we make our way down to the vast yellow expanses of the Indian desert. After leaving the mountains behind, we follow the Jawai, a monsoon river that dries up in winter. We ride along it, we cross it, we lose it and we find it again… We spend a lot of time in the desert on the second part of this leg.

D6 / Jalore - Barmer - 109 miles

Most of our route runs through farmlands on very arid, sandy terrain. This time, we are well and truly in Rajasthan’s dry, desert land. We arrive at our final destination along continuous twists and turns of well-maintained asphalt roads, although sand tracks also make a regular appearance.

D7 / Barmer - Thar Desert - 124 miles

We enter the heart of the Thar Desert along a series of small sandy roads, desert tracks of varying degrees of difficulty and deep sand that requires decent stamina. We ride through very remote tribal villages. We end the day at Desert National Park, where we savour the sunset and spend the night under the stars on the dunes around a campfire (tents, beds, mattresses and blankets are provided).

D8 / Thar Desert - Jaisalmer - 65 miles

We have breakfast at dawn and make a very early start heading for Jaisalmer, where we arrive in time for lunch. En route, we visit the Jain temple in Lodhruva. Then, we take another series of sand tracks and tarmacked stretches in Desert National Park before arriving in the desert city of Jaisalmer.

D9 / Jaisalmer

We spend the day in Jaisalmer, a fortress city and architectural dream in the middle of arid desert. You are free to walk around the fort and visit the palace and Jain temples. Venture down bustling alleys and visit the lavish haveli mansions. We also recommend taking a short walk to Gadisar lake. Late in the day, we board the train that will take us back to the capital: a unique experience.

The riders' opinions

Suresh Yeraballi
Lifetime experience riding across Rajasthan, India.

“Vintage Rides represented by Denise had tailormade a bike route in Rajasthan for four of us and I should say they have planned the trip so meticulously that everything went so seamlessly and gave us an experience of a lifetime, in terms of riding and the stay at some awesome places. They have mint condition bikes and an excellent team onboard, who are best in what they do and a note of thanks to the team leader Sid and support staff Ashraf, without whom the trip would have been incomplete. Cheers!”

A once in a lifetime experience!

“Made the 14 day Rajasthan rumble and it has been an amazing ride. We had breathtaking moments, crossing small villages and having chai teas with locals. Amazing hotels and sightseeing. If you a bike enthusiast and like exotic travels, you should do this trip. The guide and local staff managed it, not being a touristic thing.”

Rajastahn - India - First Visit

“I embarked upon this adventure with only a vague idea of just how it would be but being aware that Vintage Rides is a French Company. The descriptions given in the advertising information outlined the itinerary but could only ever prime one for what was to become an adventure that surpassed by some distance my original expectations. For the most part the other riders and pillions were French and a more friendly group of people one could not expect to meet, we gelled very quickly and I being the only Englishman was very soon integrated. The tour leader Anuj and his ever smiling mechanic were terrific with their knowledge of just where to visit and what to do when things did not go according to a very flexible plan. We got to enjoy many place that were 'off the beaten track' as well as the more familiar sights and scenes. Even when the machines suffered damage from the poor surfaces and ravages of at times a challenging terrain they were not out of action for long. Stunning scenery and opulent Havelis added to what was a wonderful experience and a real taste of India. Memories that will linger for a lifetime and I know that for certain I will return to India to explore more of this fascinating land. Well done Vintage Rides.”
