D1 / Arrive in Delhi

Your first day is all about a smooth arrival in Delhi: you’re met at the airport and transferred to the hotel in the city centre. Your room is available from noon onwards. You have two options: you can stay at the hotel and rest after the flight or go out and explore India’s bustling capital.

D2 / Delhi - Mandawa - 96 miles

The day begins with a 2-hour drive in a private vehicle out of New Delhi. We pick the bikes up in Balwari and embark on our adventure into the Land of the Maharajas along small country roads, which are rough at times. We start by heading towards Shekhawati in northeast Rajasthan.

D3 / Mandawa - Bikaner - 118 miles

The route to Bikaner, one of Rajasthan’s hidden treasures, becomes increasingly arid and desert-like. Perched on the edge of the sun-kissed Thar Desert, the ancient city of Bikaner offers a pleasant surprise with its lively, bustling alleyways. We check in at the hotel and you can go off and explore Bikaner and its superb fortress.

D4 / Bikaner - Jaisalmer - 230 miles

We cruise for a long stretch through the Thar Desert. As we approach Phalodi, it’s not uncommon to spot blackbuck antelopes on the roadside. We reach Jaisalmer, which dominates the desert’s horizon, at the end of the day.

D5 / Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - 196 miles

Today, we head southeast on countless small roads towards Jodhpur, the “Blue City”. This leg offers us almost two hundred miles of exhilarating roads and friendly encounters with farmers and camel herds.

D6 / Jodhpur

Today, we spend the day visiting Jodhpur or taking a well-deserved rest. We make the most of being halfway through our exciting adventure and stop in one of the region’s most magical cities. You can visit the imposing Mehrangarh fortress and stroll through the maze of alleys at its feet. The city has a lot to offer: antiques shops, spice stores and nice little cafes, to name a few.

D7 / Jodhpur - Ghanerao - 118 miles

In the morning, we cross Jodhpur’s hustling and bustling old town, dominated by the imposing Mehrangarh Fort, an eagle’s nest overlooking the city. We head through the land of the Bishnoi, a community who have always lived a very pure, eco-friendly life, long before it was even a concept. Then, we go south towards the ancient Mewar kingdom.

D8 / Ghanerao - Udaipur - 71 miles

We leave Mewar’s arid plains behind us and wind our way up the Aravalli range. The small roads are superb and we pass several villages and small valleys, where we will discover countless charming country scenes. We arrive in Udaipur, the incredible “Venice of the East”, which was built next to Lake Pichola.

D9 / Udaipur - Deogarh - 115 miles

We spend the whole day riding the winding roads Aravalli mountain roads. The country roads are superb and we cross many villages and small valleys where the locals’ agricultural techniques remind us of those used in nineteenth-century Europe. The southwestern stretch that we cross is the highest part, which reaches 1,200 m altitude and is covered in lush woodland.

D10 / Deogarh - Pushkar - 115 miles

Today is our last day riding through the Aravallis. We pass many more country scenes as we ride on narrow tarmacked roads and stretches of track and even a fast-paced length on the National Highway, until we reach Pushkar, a small holy town built next to a sacred lake.

D11 / Pushkar - Jaipur - 118 miles

We mainly cruise along small roads towards Jaipur, Rajasthan’s capital. On the way, we discover the great Sambhar salt lake. In the afternoon, you are free to visit Jaipur. Chaotic yet orderly, exuberant but enchanting, the capital is known as the “pink city” and was built during the desert’s splendour. The Palace of the Winds, the famous observatory and the City Palace are just some of the city’s treasures.

D12 / Jaipur - Alwar - 118 miles

It’s already our last day on the bikes! In the morning, we visit the impressive Amer Fort, located a few miles north of Jaipur: a fantastic way to end this tour! Then, we take our Royal Enfields on the narrow, sometimes mountainous roads to Alwar Fort. We ride through the lesser-known Alwar district, which is among the most beautiful regions of Rajasthan.

“Vintage Rides represented by Denise had tailormade a bike route in Rajasthan for four of us and I should say they have planned the trip so meticulously that everything went so seamlessly and gave us an experience of a lifetime, in terms of riding and the stay at some awesome places. They have mint condition bikes and an excellent team onboard, who are best in what they do and a note of thanks to the team leader Sid and support staff Ashraf, without whom the trip would have been incomplete.
