Our fashion-icon tour leader has two long-standing passions: photography and The Bullet. But above all, he’s in love with India.
Rajasthan – a fascinating mixture of authentic villages, secret trails, majestic forts, palaces, unforgettable encounters and scenes of everyday life. Embrace an intensely new world – with surprises guaranteed too ! Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Pushkar, Jaipur… will leave you blinking at their sheer wealth of history and culture. A magical night under the stars in Thar Desert, then you continue to other climes. This rite-of-passage trip spanning more than 2,200km (1,370 miles) will take you as far as the Aravali Range, a wild green haven of peace. More than a motorbike trip, this is an intense and potent experience of India, and will leave an indelible impression.
Welcome to India! You’re met at the airport and taken to your hotel in central Delhi.
To start our Rajasthan motorbike tour we head to Shekhawati, a region famed for its majestic havelis. Our bikes await us in Behror, for a 170km ride along small and sometimes bumpy rural roads.
Our route continues through increasingly barren landscapes, en route to Bikaner. On the edge of the Thar Desert, the historic city of Bikaner takes you aback with its noisy, cluttered alleyways. Unguided visit of the city and its superb fort.
We cruise a long, beautiful road through the middle of the Thar Desert, before arriving at day’s end in Jaisalmer, which we see in advance, rising out of the desert.
An unguided tour of this fortified city, which rises like a mirage in the middle of the desert. We take a walk around the fort, and visit the palace and Jain temples.
This day takes us on infinite small roads towards the East on the way to Jodhpur, the « Blue City ». Farmers and heards of camels punctuate our route…
In the morning, we visit Jodhpur, learning fascinating facts, gaping in amazement at its historical Mehrangarh Fort. In the afternoon, we head south to the ancient Mewar kingdom. Overnight stay in a charming fort built in 1606.
We leave behind the arid Mewar Plain and switch to the twisty roads of the Aravali Mountains. Superb little roads through many valleys, and a great variety of landscapes. Arrive in Udaipur, “Venice of the East”.
Today you will have the choice between visiting Udaipur, the City of Lakes, or take the bike for a loop in the heart of the Aravallis.
An early departure for Kumbhalgarh Fort. In the afternoon, we head straight north to Dhamli, leaving the mountains behind and returning to the vast semi-desert plain of Marwar.
We ride towards Pushkar, a small and very important pilgrimage site for Hindus. Built around a holy lake, Pushkar has the only temple dedicated to Brahma. It is also famous for its annual Camel fair; Pushkar is a museum in itself.
Heading north, we take small roads to the pink city of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. On the way, we discover the great salted lake of Sambhar. In the afternoon, you are free to visit the “Pink City”.
Back to the capital by private vehicle. One or two rooms are booked for a rest and freshen-up before your international flight. Airport transfer to fit your flight departure time.
“Having joined two tours in India previously with Vintage Rides I have no hesitation in booking a third and recommending this company as experts in their field to anyone contemplating a guided tour on the sub continent or the far east. Vintage Rides is a French company and as expected many of the riders are French speakers but it is not a barrier. I speak English and have only a little of the French language but I have been welcomed by both the tour leaders and the other riders without any problems at all. Communication is not a problem in the brotherhood off the bikers. The tour leaders know their stuff and take you to places off the well beaten tourist track, always mindful of one's safety. The support team for mechanical issues that can occasionally arise with the robust Royal Enfield 500cc Bullet bikes and for transport of luggage and local knowledge remove any concerns, just sit back and enjoy the ride.”
“Well organized, excellent tour lead with support crew.”
“We were a bunch of mates from Norwich in the UK looking for something different on bikes. We decided to email 2 company's, Vintage rides and another Aussie outfit based in Nepal. Both company's provided a detailed route in the Mustang Valley in Nepal. The Aussie company was slightly cheaper but the bikes looked older and most importantly sending 20,000 euro's abroad to either company did not appeal to me! However Vintage rides payments are covered via our version of ABTA. The Aussie company payments were not. Easy choice for us. We arrived in Nepal to be greated by the coolest dude at the airport in leather jacket, ciggy in one hand , his name Francois. I can go on and bang on about what an experience the ride was which it was but if you are looking for a company to to have the ride of your life then Vintage rides is at the top of the game. All hotels were fantastic, we bumped into another British company half way up the Mustang valley and I have to say I was glad I had booked Vintage rides. The bike the Britsh had were all sorts of old Royal Enfields and the hotel they were in looked terrible, even the Britsh tour t-shirts they were wearing looked like they were from pound land ! Francois our gide put up with 8 middle aged blokes on a 12 day bender! One hotel we drunk dry !! Brexit was mentioned once or twice but we all decided the French are not so bad after all they can drink as well !! Francois new exactly where to take us ,he has done these trips most of his life. The support crew were 10 mins behind us all the time to fix puncures and fix bikes. Vintage rides is a company that know's what it is doiing and I would have no hesitation in booking another trip (Mongolia) again. A big thankyou to Francois and Denise for organising such a great trip. Roll on next year we are booking again. Doddy.”
